Punch Powertrain

Punch powertrain develops continuous variable transmissions for cars. With the arrival of hybrid cars, the controlling of the transmission had to be adjusted.

Our contribution was the development of the (proto) housings for the power electronics of hybrid cars. The severe conditions like internal heat transfer, water tight housing, available distance needed to eliminate electrical creapage, were some of the limitations in the design.

We also had a look at the ultrasonic welding process for a controller unit.  The difficulty was the material choice (automotive usage) in combination with a good ultrasonic weld. The overmolding of a connector limited the choice of materials.
